What is it?
Software House, a Johnson Controls company, has introduced the iSTAR Ultra LT door controller. It is billed as a ‘special edition’ iSTAR Ultra door controller that provides a full IP-based system architecture and additionally delivers enterprise-level features and functions to small- and medium-sized access control applications. As such, it is ideal for installers and integrators looking to deploy bespoke solutions on distributed sites.
The iSTAR Ultra LT door controller centralises all access control data processing and secures the network communications while allowing end users to leverage existing infrastructure and Power over
Ethernet capabilities. Each controller makes use of fully scalable architecture, allowing system expansions and upgrades, but also can be used in a more basic layout thanks to on-board support for up to eight card readers and 500,000 cardholders.
How feature-rich is it?
The iSTAR Ultra LT includes distributed intelligence, as the control module maintains the local access control database and makes all access transactional decisions, centralising the access control management interface for operators.
The iSTAR Ultra LT controller can be shared with several Ethernet door modules, providing additional costs savings. Its advanced encryption and authentication processes ensure that communications between access controllers and doors are cyber secure.
The controller also includes a Bluetooth low energy (BLE) smart phone application that allows operators to configure and manage controllers and locks.
What about integration?
The iSTAR Ultra LT door controller combines support for traditional hard-wired access control doors with support for wireless lock sets, all in the same controller. The iSTAR Ultra LT supports both Assa Abloy’s Aperio and Schlage NDE, AD300 and AD400 wireless locks. The controller includes 2GB memory and 16GB storage, as well as a single database connection for every eight doors.
This not only enhances flexibility but also enables installation savings via wireless devices. The use of the controller’s PoE Plus capabilities lowers installation costs further.
The iSTAR Ultra LT can be linked with the C•CURE 9000 platform.
