NETINT and Akamai Join Forces

by Geny Caloisi
NETINT Technologies has partnered with Akamai to integrate its Video Processing Units (VPUs) into Akamai’s distributed cloud platform. This collaboration aims to enhance video encoding and processing by addressing industry challenges such as scalability, efficiency, and cost.

For the physical security sector, the partnership could significantly impact video surveillance, where high-quality, real-time feeds are critical. NETINT’s VPUs offer high encoding density—handling up to 320 1080p streams on a single server—while reducing power consumption by 20 to 40 times compared to conventional systems. As security systems increasingly shift to cloud platforms, these energy-efficient and scalable solutions are crucial in managing large volumes of data without costly infrastructure upgrades.

Akamai’s Shawn Michels emphasised the advantage of giving customers access to advanced ASIC technology without the need for their own hardware, a benefit for organisations aiming to enhance video quality and bandwidth management.

As demand for high-resolution video and advanced codec support grows, the integration of VPUs into Akamai’s cloud platform could offer security professionals a more efficient and sustainable way to manage video data, ensuring flexibility and cost-effectiveness.

Both companies will showcase their technologies at IBC 2024 in Amsterdam, providing a glimpse of the future for cloud-based video processing in sectors like physical security.
