Hikvision’s Turbo HD 8.0 significantly advances the audio-visual capabilities of analogue security systems, combining sophisticated audio and video technologies with affordability and practicality. Turbo HD 8.0 delivers high-definition imaging and sound with notable enhancements across two-way audio, real-time deterrence, intelligent processing, and lighting adaptability. In a discussion with Hikvision Product Manager Ken Zhang, Benchmark explores how Turbo HD 8.0 answers key industry demands for both reliability and affordability.
One of the key features in Turbo HD 8.0 is the TVI two-way audio function. This feature lets security operators communicate with individuals on the ground, bridging a long-standing gap in analogue systems that typically rely on one-way audio. Through this new setup, a built-in microphone and optional speaker allow operators to send verbal warnings or guidance directly from their control centre.
Combined with 4K High Definition imaging, Turbo HD 8.0 empowers operators not only to monitor but to interact directly with individuals, transforming passive surveillance into an active security solution, particularly in sectors like retail and transportation, where immediate communication can make a critical difference.
The effectiveness of two-way audio lies in Hikvision’s crystal-clear audio technology, which incorporates noise reduction and echo cancellation. This ensures clear audio capture even in environments with high ambient noise, making it feasible to use in a wide range of scenarios, including outdoor installations and high-traffic areas. The camera can clearly capture human voices up to five metres away, while users can switch this function on or off via the Hikvision app, allowing customisation for specific needs. By enabling high-fidelity sound capture, the Turbo HD 8.0 cameras significantly improve audio functionality, which is essential for efficient communication and adds a proactive layer to security efforts when combined with two-way audio.
Another feature positioned to enhance real-time security is Live Guard, an integrated visual and auditory warning system designed for proactive intrusion deterrence. When the camera’s motion or intrusion detection sensors are triggered, Live Guard activates flashing lights and a siren, making it an ideal choice for sensitive areas requiring instant deterrents. According to Zhang, Live Guard can be configured based on specific needs, allowing security teams to set up response mechanisms in designated areas. This real-time deterrent prevents unauthorised access, particularly in environments with minimal on-site personnel. Installers who have adopted this feature report improved security outcomes and faster response times in critical areas.
Furthering the visual scope of Turbo HD 8.0, the new dual-lens camera uses stitching technology to deliver a 180-degree panoramic view. While single-lens cameras often have limited fields of view, the dual-lens design combines images, eliminating blind spots and enhancing situational awareness. This is particularly beneficial in retail or public spaces, where broad coverage is essential. With an F1.0 large aperture and high-sensitivity sensor, the camera also captures colour images around the clock, even in low-light conditions. This design improves surveillance quality and reduces the number of cameras needed to monitor wide areas, making installations more cost-effective without compromising security.
Perhaps the most notable improvement in Turbo HD 8.0 is found in the PowerX DVR, which delivers advanced intelligent processing. Traditionally used to encode and record analogue footage, the PowerX DVR now includes perimeter protection, facial recognition, and an updated Motion Detection 2.0 feature. Turbo HD 8.0’s DVR offers up to eight intelligent channels—double its predecessor—allowing more comprehensive perimeter monitoring, even in high-security environments such as data centres and critical infrastructure facilities. Zhang emphasised that while analogue systems traditionally rely on DVRs for basic encoding, the new PowerX model offers deeper integration of intelligent functionality, streamlining investigation workflows through Smart Search and AcuSearch and significantly reducing search times for specific events or individuals. The DVR not only processes enhanced analytics but also allows for system upgrades without replacing existing analogue cameras, making Turbo HD 8.0 an attractive option for clients with legacy infrastructure.
Turbo HD 8.0 also includes Smart Hybrid Light, an adaptive feature optimising lighting based on conditions. With three modes—black and white, full-colour, and an intelligent hybrid mode—the system can adjust between night and day conditions, switching from black and white to full-colour imaging when an alarm is triggered. The ColourVu technology in this system allows the camera to record detailed images in colour only during key events, providing high-quality footage that retains critical details while minimising power consumption. This adaptability proves useful for facilities requiring 24/7 surveillance, ensuring that image quality remains uncompromised despite variable lighting conditions.
Hikvision’s Turbo HD 8.0 represents a future-ready security solution for clients prioritising both affordability and advanced functionality. By blending analogue accessibility with cutting-edge technologies like two-way audio, dual-lens panoramic views, and Smart Hybrid Light, Turbo HD 8.0 provides a flexible and robust system that meets the evolving needs of modern security landscapes. This combination of analogue and digital features positions Turbo HD 8.0 as an excellent choice for clients with existing analogue setups who wish to upgrade without a full transition to IP, while simultaneously catering to sectors requiring a high level of intelligent surveillance functionality.
