Protecting narrow or awkward indoor spaces has always been a challenge for high-security environments. OPTEX has now stepped into that gap with the launch of REDSCAN Lite, a short-range indoor LiDAR sensor designed to detect movement where traditional technologies fall short.
Part of the REDSCAN family, the new RLS-1010L model delivers edge-to-edge detection within a 10m x 10m range, reacting to intrusions in just 100 milliseconds. Using time-of-flight (TOF) technology, it maintains performance regardless of lighting or temperature – including in total darkness.
Unlike conventional sensors that struggle in confined layouts, REDSCAN Lite is designed for spaces such as the narrow voids between datacentre server racks, internal cages or even ventilation shafts. It can be installed horizontally to create an invisible ceiling or skylight barrier, or mounted vertically to form a laser ‘wall’ across high-value assets, turnstiles or internal perimeters.
Installation has been made deliberately straightforward. Installers can use an optional Laser Alignment Tool to visualise the exact detection area during setup, while Automatic Area Correction prevents overspill beyond the target zone. The LiDAR angle can also be adjusted manually by rotating the side knobs – no power required.
Mac Kokobo, Head of Global Security Business at OPTEX, says the product directly responds to feedback from customers operating in increasingly congested environments.
“In modern datacentres and similar facilities, every inch of space is being used. Customers told us they needed reliable, ultra-fast detection in very tight areas where conventional devices simply can’t reach. REDSCAN Lite has been developed specifically for those scenarios.”
According to Kokobo, the launch reinforces OPTEX’s long-standing commitment to practical innovation.
“Since first pioneering LiDAR for security back in 2009, our focus has always been on solving real-world challenges rather than just adding features. REDSCAN Lite is the next step in that evolution.”
