Abloy UK calls for urgent action on fire door safety

by Geny Caloisi

Abloy UK is backing Fire Door Safety Week 2025, September 22 – 26, with a call to improve compliance, as new figures show fire-related incidents and fatalities are on the rise.

In the year to March 2025, Fire and Rescue Services in England attended 142,494 fires – up 2.5% on the previous year. Fire-related deaths also increased by 8%, from 251 to 271.

“Compliant fire doors save lives – but only if they’re installed and maintained to the correct standards,” said Pat Jefferies, Commercial Director at Abloy UK.

To support the industry, the Abloy Academy continues to offer free RIBA-approved training on Electrical Locking Fire and Escape Doors. The CPD helps specifiers and installers understand compliance when integrating access control, covering BS EN standards for emergency escape, panic escape and electronically controlled systems.

Alongside training, Abloy provides compliant locking solutions designed for fire, panic and escape doors, including motor and solenoid locks that meet mandatory standards.

Pat concluded, “Awareness, correct specification and regular checks are vital. Every compliant fire door is a safeguard against avoidable tragedy.”
