Advanced Detection Solutions for Vehicle Security with CarDefender

by Geny Caloisi

Pyronix’s CarDefender, an innovative vehicle security solution, is having a significant impact on the the way people can take care of the property just outside their homes. With its advanced features and practical applications, CarDefender is a finalist for the Benchmark Innovation Awards 2024 in the Alarm/Detection category.

CarDefender can be securely mounted using a steering wheel mount, which attaches to the steering wheels of cars, vans, motorhomes, and motorbike and e-bike handlebars, offering multiple use cases out of the box. It can also be attached to internal van sliding or rear doors, providing flexibility for various vehicles exposed to outdoor conditions.

The small and convenient device provides early warnings against theft by signalling the Enforcer or EURO control panels, alerting the user through the app. Additionally, it can trigger the property siren if the user requires it. The Back to Home (B2H) feature ensures users receive a visual indication when their vehicle is within range of the control panel, confirming the vehicle’s protection.

With its conformal coating, it is designed to withstand variable environments, ensuring the electronics’ longevity over time.
CarDefender offers a unique upsell opportunity for security installers, allowing them to position themselves differently against competitors with a robust, reliable solution.

Putting Vehicle Security Theft in Reverse

Southampton-based Axis Fire and Security, relied on CarDefender to protect its customers’ assets. One of its clients, which deals in the used van industry, presented a significant challenge, the company manages a fleet of vans worth approximately £375,000, and it had experienced thefts due to the shared nature of its facilities.

Traditional perimeter security was unfeasible because the shared main entrance was frequently breached, making the site vulnerable. The high demand for the vans as complete units and parts exacerbated the risk. Following four thefts in a short period of time, the client sought a reliable security solution that could integrate with their existing Pyronix Enforcer control panel and BatteryCams.

Axis Fire and Security introduced CarDefender, seamlessly integrating it with the client’s existing security system through HomeControl2.0. They installed two external PIR sensors in the yard and 25 CarDefenders across the van fleet. The deployment strategy was meticulously planned: five CarDefenders were installed in vans used during the day, activated in sync with the office’s intruder alarm, while twenty CarDefenders were installed in vans stationed in the yard until sold, remaining active day and night but easily deactivated when needed.

The installation showcased CarDefender’s versatility and ease of use. The bright yellow mounting strap provided an additional visual deterrent, and the devices were set up as intruder zones, ensuring immediate alerts for any break-in attempts. The sensitivity settings were calibrated to avoid false alarms, further demonstrating the device’s reliability.

Technical Innovations and Practical Benefits

CarDefender’s advanced features make it a standout product in vehicle security. The device can be mounted on steering wheels, handlebars of motorbikes and e-bikes, and internal van doors, providing a broad range of applications.
It signals to the Enforcer or EURO control panels, alerting users via the app and potentially triggering the property siren. The Back to Home (B2H) feature ensures users receive a visual indication when their vehicle is within range of the control panel, confirming the vehicle’s protection.

Additionally, the conformal coating protects the electronics, ensuring longevity in various environments. CarDefender also offers security installers a unique upsell opportunity, differentiating them from competitors with a robust, reliable solution.
The success of CarDefender in the Axis Fire and Security case study highlights its effectiveness and reliability. The device not only met the client’s security needs but also enhanced their overall security infrastructure without exceeding budget constraints. By addressing critical security concerns with a versatile and reliable solution, CarDefender stands out in the alarm and detection category, exemplifying the innovation and excellence that the Benchmark Awards 2024 aim to recognise.
