ASIS International has published its first Executive Protection Standard, providing a structured framework for safeguarding high-profile individuals. Developed by a committee of industry experts, the standard outlines best practice in risk assessment, planning and operational delivery, ensuring consistent and professional approaches to protection.
Joe M. Olivarez, Jr., President of ASIS International, described the release as “a critical advancement in our profession’s ability to safeguard leaders who drive global commerce and innovation.”
The standard brings together guidance on leadership, strategy, resource management, and protective operations, covering areas such as intelligence gathering, transport, close protection and emergency response. It also sets benchmarks for personnel selection, training, compliance, and ongoing programme evaluation.
Charles Tobin, chair of the technical committee, said the document offers “a practical roadmap” to help security professionals meet increasingly complex threats with strategic and coordinated measures.
ASIS believes the publication represents a milestone for the sector, equipping organisations with the tools to build effective executive protection programmes that adapt to evolving risks.
