The WorldSkills UK Finals celebrated the exceptional talents of apprentices in the Fire Detection & Alarm Systems and Electronic Security Systems categories, showcasing the next generation of skilled professionals. Organised in partnership with Skills for Security, the competition tested participants on industry-aligned tasks that demanded precision, technical expertise, and problem-solving acumen.

From a pool of 16 finalists, Dominic Glater of DCA Security Systems claimed the top spot in the Fire Detection & Alarm Systems category, while Luke Kendall of Plymstock Security Systems excelled in Electronic Security Systems, demonstrating remarkable aptitude in their respective fields.

In Fire Detection & Alarm Systems, Tristan Houghton from Chubb Fire and Security (trained by Training 2000) secured second place, with Sam Alsey from ProActive Fire Solutions (trained by Skills for Security) rounding out the top three.

For Electronic Security Systems, Andrew Mullen of Vault Systems (New College Lanarkshire) took second place, and Joseph Laney from KBO Fire and Security (trained by Skills for Security) earned third.

Darrell Gilmour, Director of Technical Training at Skills for Security, praised the competitors, stating, “Their skill, dedication, and professionalism demonstrate the outstanding potential within our industry.” He emphasised the importance of such competitions in fostering confidence, resilience, and industry-ready skills among apprentices.

Held at Wigan & Leigh College, the event was supported by sponsors including CSL Group, The Security Event, and Texecom, alongside contributions from NSI, Honeywell, and others. These partnerships not only ensured the event’s success but also highlighted the broader industry’s commitment to nurturing talent.

David Scott, Managing Director of Skills for Security, acknowledged the critical role of mentorship and training, declaring, “These achievements represent the future of our industry and underscore the importance of setting high standards.”

The WorldSkills UK Competition stands as a prestigious platform for recognising emerging talent, and this year’s winners have set a benchmark for excellence, inspiring confidence in the future of the security sector.
