Vaping is getting out of hand. Schools in particular are facing an uphill battle against vaping, with students increasingly using e-cigarettes in restrooms and other hidden areas. The health risks associated with vaping, especially among teenagers, have led to calls for stricter monitoring and intervention. In response, security technology manufacturer TAKEX EUROPE LTD has unveiled its latest innovation, the VS-1000E Vape & Smoking Sensor, designed to provide rapid detection and deterrence in educational and public spaces.
The VS-1000E is engineered to detect vaping and smoking activity using a high-sensitivity particle sensor and advanced algorithms. Its ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions ensures reliable detection, allowing schools and other facilities to take swift action. Unlike many vape sensors that require app-based management, the VS-1000E operates independently, offering seamless, license-free functionality.
To reinforce deterrence, the sensor includes an integrated sounder and LED notification light, delivering an immediate alert when vaping is detected. This feature enables school staff to act quickly, reducing the likelihood of repeat offences. Additionally, its tamper-resistant design ensures secure operation without risk of interference from students attempting to disable the device.
Installation has been streamlined with a twist-lock base and tool-less, push-fit terminals, allowing the sensor to be deployed in seconds. The device also integrates easily with existing alarm systems via configurable relay outputs, making it a practical addition to schools and other environments where vaping is a concern.
John Angell, Business Manager at TAKEX Europe, highlighted the sensor’s potential impact: “By providing rapid detection and immediate deterrence of vaping and smoking, the VS-1000E empowers facility managers and security professionals to help protect public spaces and promote a healthier, safer environment.”
