Gunnebo Entrance Control publishes white paper on evolving campus security needs

by Geny Caloisi

Gunnebo Entrance Control has released a new white paper, Rethinking Campus Security, exploring how universities can meet today’s rising security demands without compromising the openness and accessibility that define campus life.

As campuses grow into vibrant, multi-use spaces – hosting students, staff, the wider community and international visitors – the traditional idea of a secure, contained academic environment is no longer enough. Institutions now face the challenge of protecting people and property across ageing buildings, decentralised sites, and increasingly complex risk landscapes.

“Students and staff want to feel safe, but not restricted,” says Tina Hughan, Global Marketing & Sustainability Director at Gunnebo Entrance Control. “This paper looks at how modern entrance control technology can help universities strike the right balance – maintaining security and freedom side by side.”

The white paper draws on real-world insight from academic settings and outlines how biometric access, advanced turnstiles, and behavioural analytics can deliver more control, visibility and efficiency. It also addresses practical barriers, such as fragmented infrastructure and legacy systems, that can make coherent campus-wide security difficult to achieve.

Tina adds: “By adopting scalable, integrated entrance control strategies, universities can improve safety, flow and resilience – without losing sight of their educational ethos. We want to support leadership teams and facilities managers as they rethink what campus security should look like in today’s world.”

Rethinking Campus Security is now available to download and offers actionable guidance for university security professionals, estates teams and decision-makers.
