HID Unveils Ultra-Mobile Authentication at TSE 2025 with OMNIKEY SE Plug

by Geny Caloisi

HID has launched the OMNIKEY SE Plug, a compact, cable-free RFID reader designed for mobile professionals needing secure, passwordless authentication on the go. Introduced at The Security Event (TSE) 2025, the SE Plug is positioned as a significant step forward in enabling strong identity verification for field-based workforces and hybrid teams.

Roughly the size of a USB stick, the OMNIKEY SE Plug connects via USB-C and works seamlessly across laptops, tablets, and smartphones. It supports FIDO2 and multi-factor authentication (MFA), offering strong protection against phishing attacks and credential theft. Importantly, it enables consistent access to both physical and digital systems using a single secure credential.

The device has immediate applications in sectors such as healthcare, law enforcement, and remote enterprise environments. From accessing electronic health records at the bedside to retrieving secure databases from a patrol vehicle, the SE Plug provides robust security without compromising convenience.

According to Thierry Roz, Managing Director of HID’s Extended Access Technologies RFID Business Unit, “The OMNIKEY SE Plug reflects our commitment to secure, frictionless authentication that fits the realities of mobile and hybrid work.”

Designed for simplicity, the reader requires no additional drivers, enabling plug-and-play deployment across systems. It also integrates easily with existing infrastructure—providing flexibility for organisations seeking to unify access across devices and platforms.
