IDIS launches Smart Privacy Masks to balance security and privacy in real time

by Geny Caloisi

IDIS has introduced Smart Privacy Masks, a real-time masking solution that safeguards individual privacy without compromising situational awareness or surveillance performance. Built on the company’s patented deep learning technology, this innovation addresses long-standing challenges in conventional privacy masking – from missed detections to over-masking and latency.

Traditional masking solutions often blur out entire areas, struggle to differentiate people from objects, or introduce lag that weakens security. IDIS Smart Privacy Masks solve these issues by delivering high-resolution, real-time video streams where privacy is preserved but important behavioural context is retained.

Precision masking powered by deep learning

At the heart of this innovation is the IDIS Deep Learning Engine, which adjusts mosaic strength dynamically to maintain visibility of movement and actions, without revealing identities. Unlike basic masking overlays, the Smart Privacy Masks integrate with IDIS Solution Suite (ISS), enabling finely tuned object detection and scene analysis without overloading network or processing resources.

By processing directly within the ISS platform, the system remains resource-efficient while ensuring that evidence remains viable and privacy regulations are met. The result is a more intelligent approach to real-time surveillance, particularly suited to environments where regulatory compliance, operational clarity, and video integrity must coexist.

A key part of the IDIS end-to-end ecosystem

Smart Privacy Masks enhance the broader IDIS ecosystem, which includes high-performance cameras, AI-powered analytics, NVRs, and plug-and-play functionality backed by Korean-built reliability. It’s an ecosystem designed for ease of use, low maintenance, and long-term support.

“Security teams want to monitor live events without risking privacy violations,” said Dr JunHyeok Heo, Head of Solution Development at IDIS. “With Smart Privacy Masks, we’re giving them that control, powered by enterprise-class technology that’s ready for the compliance landscape of tomorrow.”
