Sharper thermal vision with Hanwha’s next-generation AI cameras

by Geny Caloisi

Hanwha’s latest QVGA AI thermal cameras bring greater intelligence and precision to perimeter and critical infrastructure monitoring. Compact yet powerful, the new range combines AI object detection with advanced thermal imaging performance, achieving a noise equivalent temperature difference (NETD) of less than 20mK for exceptional clarity in all conditions.

Designed for diverse environments – from data centres and airports to borders and energy facilities – these cameras deliver consistent detection in complete darkness and through fog, rain, or smoke. Built-in AI object recognition accurately identifies people and vehicles in real time, reducing false alarms from shadows, animals, or movement in the landscape. Event-based analytics, including virtual line-crossing and loitering detection, further enhance situational awareness and response.

With a NETD of under 20mK, the system can detect temperature variations as small as 0.02°C, ensuring sharper contrast in low-visibility environments. Four lens options (13mm, 19mm, 35mm, and 60mm) allow flexible deployment, from short-range observation to long-distance detection up to 5.4km, based on Johnson Criteria.

Models operating at 8fps are exempt from Wassenaar Arrangement export restrictions, simplifying global delivery. The range’s IP67 weather rating, IK10 impact resistance, and compliance with NEMA 4X, NEMA-TS 2, and MIL-STD-810H standards make it well-suited for harsh outdoor use.

Cybersecurity has been integrated from the ground up, featuring secure boot, firmware encryption, and a FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certified secure element to protect sensitive video data.
