Synectics’ Synergy DETECT transforms surveillance with AI-powered risk detection

by Geny Caloisi

Synergy DETECT offers smart, real-time risk detection. From PPE compliance and hazardous zone alerts to fall detection and unauthorised access, its powerful AI-driven tools keep people safe and secure across public space, healthcare, oil and gas, critical infrastructure, and more.

Oliver Martin, Public Space Surveillance Manager at London Borough of Hackney, said: “A lot of people are talking about AI, but Synectics is working closely with customers to deliver solutions for real-world applications that are both innovative and practical. That’s exactly what’s needed.”

Safety first

Among its suite of tools, PPE Detection automatically raises alerts when individuals appear on camera without essential safety gear—such as helmets or high-visibility vests—helping to enforce workplace protocols effortlessly.

The Hazardous Area Detection tool alerts when people or vehicles enter high-risk zones, such as around machinery, rail tracks, or other restricted areas, thereby reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring that safety boundaries are respected. Meanwhile, Fall Detection ensures immediate alerts are generated if someone slips, trips, or falls, allowing rapid response and improving outcomes in critical situations.

Act fast

Synergy DETECT also enables quick decision-making in dynamic environments. Crowd Detection notifies operators when footfall in a specific area exceeds safe or expected limits—whether that’s during a public event, in busy transport hubs, or retail spaces – so teams can act swiftly to prevent escalation.

Intrusion Detection makes use of long-range AI tracking to detect and classify people or vehicles entering restricted areas, such as staff-only zones or backstage entrances. This not only reduces false alarms but also eases the pressure on security personnel. Loitering Detection complements this capability by identifying suspicious lingering in sensitive or high-traffic areas, particularly valuable in high-security settings.

Monitor movement

Movement tracking is another core strength of the system. Multi-Object Detection and Counting enables operators to identify and monitor a range of vehicle types, including cars, buses, trucks, and bicycles, and issue alerts if a vehicle appears in an unexpected location or at an unusual time.

The Wrong Direction tool adds an extra layer of situational awareness by flagging vehicles moving against the intended flow of traffic, which is crucial for identifying fleeing suspects, impaired drivers, or procedural breaches. Additionally, Traffic Counting supports accurate monitoring of vehicles entering or exiting designated zones, making it easier to manage parking capacity and confirm when secure sites have been cleared.

Simple set-up and flexible camera compatibility

Using Synergy DETECT is super simple. Once the hardware is installed, users can connect any cameras in their network, including fixed, PTZ, and thermal models, and then choose which tools to use and how to configure them.

Synectics Product Manager, Sree Namelil, said: “AI has enormous potential to enhance risk detection in surveillance, but that potential only matters if the tools are easy to use. Synergy DETECT delivers on both fronts, offering advanced capabilities in a format that’s intuitive, accessible, and adaptable to each organisation’s specific requirements.”

Synectics’ Synergy DETECT is a finalist in the Surveillance Innovation (CCTV) categoryof this year’s Benchmark Innovation Awards.
