Verkada Expands Command Platform

by Geny Caloisi

Verkada has introduced a series of updates to its Command platform, aimed at improving entry management and expanding access control capabilities for organisations of all sizes. These enhancements provide more flexibility, streamline security operations, and support interoperability across a wider range of third-party devices.

To enhance visitor management, Verkada has deepened the integration between Verkada Guest and Verkada Access Control. Organisations can now issue temporary visitor access credentials at check-in, allowing guests to receive time-limited permissions via digital badges or door unlock links sent to their mobile devices. These credentials are unique, ensuring secure and controlled access. Guests are also included in Verkada’s roll call reports, enabling streamlined management of all occupants in emergency situations.

Verkada has also expanded its access control capabilities with support for third-party OSDP door readers and new APIs that automate key operations. Organisations can now update door schedules programmatically and modify access levels through third-party software without manually making changes in Command. These improvements cater to enterprise environments, reducing administrative workload and ensuring smoother security management.

A new History Player Search tool allows security teams to quickly review all sightings of an individual, optimising investigations. Additionally, an enhanced search interface provides more granular search attributes, including vehicle make, model, bumper stickers, and body damage, making it easier to identify persons or vehicles of interest.

To improve interoperability, Verkada’s Command Connector is now ONVIF Profile S conformant, supporting a broader range of third-party security cameras. It also allows RTSP-compatible cameras to integrate into Verkada’s cloud platform, expanding compatibility to over 1,000 camera models and simplifying migrations from legacy systems.

Verkada’s new WiFi Gateway enables easy deployment of Verkada devices in remote locations where cabling is impractical, such as parking lots and school grounds. Meanwhile, enhanced privacy features introduce Person of Interest Only Face Search, ensuring facial recognition is applied only to pre-approved individuals, strengthening data protection measures.

For enterprises managing multiple sites, new user and license management tools improve operational efficiency. The User Directories feature allows organisations to create regional user boundaries, empowering local IT teams to manage specific locations while maintaining central oversight.

Verkada has also introduced next-generation dome cameras, the 5MP CD43 and CD53 models, featuring improved low-light performance, extended IR range, and up to 365 days of onboard storage. The CD53 includes nearly 3x optical zoom, enhancing monitoring capabilities in critical areas.

With these updates, Verkada continues to refine its Command platform, offering organisations more control, flexibility, and efficiency in managing their security infrastructure.
