VerkadaOne London: A Glimpse into the Future of Cloud-Based Security

by Geny Caloisi

Over 400 visitors gathered at 155 Bishopsgate in London for VerkadaOne, Verkada’s flagship physical security event, which showcased its latest advancements in hybrid cloud technology. The conference, held on March 25th, featured a mix of hands-on training, new product launches, networking opportunities, and insightful presentations from senior executives.

Verkada was founded in 2016 in the USA by three Stanford University graduates: Filip Kaliszan, James Ren, and Benjamin Bercovitz. Hans Robertson joined them later. Starting their project in a garage and experimenting with Raspberry Pie computers, the company ended its beta development a year later, in September 2017, coming to market with two camera models.

According to reports, in January 2020, Verkada raised $80 million in Series C funding, reaching a valuation of $1.6 billion. As of February 2025, Verkada secured $200 million in a Series E funding round, bringing its total funding to over $700 million and valuing the company at $4.5 billion. There are no signs of slowing down.

Six Security Solutions Under One Platform

Verkada’s unified platform consolidates six key security applications, allowing users to manage everything through its cloud-based Command platform. The six core solutions highlighted at the event included:

  1. Video Security with AI-powered analytics
  2. Access Control that integrates with wired and wireless locks
  3. Environmental Sensors for monitoring temperature, air quality, and motion
  4. Alarms that provide real-time alerts and automated responses
  5. Workplace Solutions for visitor management and employee tracking
  6. Intercoms for secure, two-way communication at entry points

Visitors at the VerkadaOne event had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Command through hands-on training, 1:1 demos, and Verkada Certified Engineer courses.

David Murguia, Product Lead at Verkada (pictured below), highlighted the importance of meeting customers where they are and said, “Our solutions are deployed in hospitals, schools, factories and other complex environments. One of the reasons they chose us is that we offer a tightly integrated architecture of services, cloud-based software, on-device software, and optimised hardware.

“We have improved the design of our cameras to make it easier to install, including even a level bubble within the camera and reducing the number of screws needed from three to two, having PoE and cellular connectivity options and offering a 75% larger image sensor and its computer power is four times greater than it was before. This provides a 40% faster installation time.”

Of course, a major advantage of systems that are cloud-based is the ability to update the software remotely and seamlessly. In the past year, the company carried out 50 software updates and six hardware updates.

A major announcement at VerkadaOne London was a new integration with Germany’s SimonsVoss SmartIntego wireless locks, further expanding the capabilities of Verkada’s access control system.

“I’m proud to showcase the breadth and depth of our product offering here in Europe at VerkadaOne London,” said Ardon Anderson, Verkada’s Vice President of EMEA. “Our new partnership with SimonsVoss will unlock new potential for us as our Access Control offering continues to grow and help make it even easier to deploy seamless, enterprise-grade solutions at scale.”

A Hybrid Cloud Approach to Security

A key theme of the event was Verkada’s hybrid cloud model, which integrates on-premises security infrastructure, in particular in the security cameras themselves, with cloud-based capabilities. This approach balances the benefits of local data storage – ensuring reliable, low-latency access to critical footage and redundancy if there is a disconnect – with cloud-based scalability, enabling remote access, AI-driven analytics, and automatic software updates. As organisations look for more efficient, resilient security solutions, the hybrid cloud model offers a practical way to enhance surveillance and access control without overhauling existing infrastructure.

Thought Leadership and Industry Networking

The event featured presentations from key Verkada executives, including Ardon Anderson (VP of EMEA), Kameron Rezai (CFO), and Priyanka Srinivasan (VP of Product Marketing).

Anderson (left), who joined Verkada in 2020, sat down with Benchmark for an exclusive interview to discuss his journey with the company.

With a background in sales but from a different industry, medical devices, he was drawn to Verkada’s straightforward technology and ease of deployment. “If you understand it, you can sell it,” he pointed out.

The company’s culture was also a draw for Anderson, who migrated from the United States to London with his family, overseeing the company’s EMEA operations, particularly its Enterprise clients – which have 2000 plus employees.

“When I joined, Verkada had only 300 people. Today we have over 2000 employees As of March 2025, Verkada has approximately 2,200 employees globally.”

Verkada has expanded rapidly, with 16 offices spread across four continents. The company’s workforce has grown to support its expanding customer base, which now includes over 30,000 organisations across 93 countries worldwide.

Anderson highlighted the importance of learning about local culture in the territories they expand to and speaking their language. “We apply hyperfocus on each region and make sure we set up regional teams that can take care of the marketing, that has a solutions engineer, and a sales team.

Beyond the conference sessions, attendees took advantage of networking opportunities, engaging with industry leaders, integrators, and IT professionals—all while enjoying a selection of food and nibbles between sessions.
