JCB Fire Ltd, a fire alarm contractor, has teamed up with Hochiki to implement a cutting-edge fire detection system at Costa Coffee’s flagship store in Solihull’s bustling Touchwood Shopping Centre. Commissioned by Otec Electrical Limited, this project marks a significant step in retail fire safety for the popular coffeehouse chain.

Costa Coffee, a cherished name in British hospitality, is known for its exceptional coffee and inviting ambiance. With the new flagship store positioned in a shopping centre attracting over 13 million visitors annually, ensuring robust fire safety was paramount. The solution needed to align with the demands of a busy retail hub, safeguarding customers and staff alike.

The installation seamlessly integrated a sophisticated fire detection system with the building’s existing infrastructure, including security and sprinkler systems. It also adhered to the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), ensuring the store meets inclusive safety standards.

JCB Fire opted for Hochiki’s fire detection devices, celebrated for their innovative features and compatibility with a wide range of fire alarm control panels. The open protocol capability of Hochiki’s products allowed for a flexible system design while ensuring future-proof functionality. Additionally, the devices’ ease of installation helped streamline the project, completing the task in record time while maintaining high reliability and minimising false alarms.

Hochiki’s ESP range played a pivotal role in the installation. These devices, equipped with electronics-free mounting bases and straightforward addressing, made the process efficient and precise. The sensors, designed for versatility, offer options for smoke, heat, and multi-criteria detection. Enhanced features such as improved audibility and visual alerts ensured the safety of individuals with hearing impairments, enabling swift and inclusive evacuations.

Grant Wheeler, General Manager at JCB Fire, reflected on the collaboration, “The installation at Costa Coffee’s Solihull store was completed in less than a week by Otec Electrical. This project showcases the synergy between our expertise and Hochiki’s innovative technology, guaranteeing a secure environment for customers and staff in this flagship store.”

This project underscores the reliability and adaptability of Hochiki’s ESP range, highlighting its suitability for the dynamic needs of retail and hospitality environments.
