Amthal Enhances Security and Learning Environment at Heathlands School

by Geny Caloisi
Amthal Fire & Security has played a pivotal role in improving the security and functionality of Heathlands School in St Albans, one of the UK’s leading specialist schools for deaf children. In addition to implementing an advanced security system in the school’s newly constructed teaching block, Amthal coordinated a donation of essential furniture and supplies to support the development of the new facilities.

The new £1 million, two-storey building, completed in just eight months, represents a significant expansion for Heathlands School, which now offers education from nursery to sixth form. To ensure the safety and well-being of students, staff, and visitors, Amthal installed an integrated security solution, including access control, CCTV, and fire alarms.

Understanding the specific needs of a school for deaf children was essential for the project. Amthal worked closely with Heathlands School’s management to develop a system that provides robust protection without disrupting the learning environment. This bespoke approach ensures a secure yet unobtrusive system, meeting the needs of both the school’s staff and its students.

Carol Bush, the school’s business manager, highlighted the importance of Amthal’s partnership: “Amthal has been an invaluable partner over the years. Their latest contribution not only ensures the security of our new building but also transforms it into an inspiring and comfortable space for students. Their support goes beyond security, helping us achieve our vision of enabling every student to reach their full potential.”

Practical Support for a Growing School

In addition to the security measures, Amthal arranged for essential furniture and supplies to be donated to the school’s new block. By repurposing items from a former office provider, the company helped create a welcoming and functional space for the six new classrooms and dedicated sixth-form area.

David Williamson, Sales Manager at Amthal, emphasised the company’s commitment to aligning its services with clients’ needs: “This project exemplifies our approach to working closely with customers. By tailoring security solutions to the school’s unique environment and contributing furniture to enhance the new block, we are proud to support Heathlands in their mission to educate and empower deaf students.”

Since 1975, Heathlands School has provided specialised education and boarding facilities for deaf children, becoming a cornerstone of the community. The new teaching block is a testament to the school’s commitment to growth and its mission to enable students to “become the best you can be.”

Amthal’s comprehensive security and fire safety systems are integral to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for this expanding school community. The added furniture donation demonstrates the company’s commitment to going beyond its core offerings to make a meaningful impact on its clients’ broader needs.

A Model for Collaboration

Amthal’s work with Heathlands School exemplifies how security solutions can be tailored to meet the demands of unique environments. By integrating security with practical support for the new facilities, the company has reinforced its reputation as a trusted partner for specialist educational institutions.

This collaboration underscores the value of a holistic approach—one that considers not just security requirements but the broader needs of a school’s community. For other security integrators, it serves as a reminder of the impact thoughtful, well-rounded contributions can have on creating safer and more enriching spaces.
