A major teaching hospital in Northeast England has reinforced its security infrastructure with i-PRO X-Series AI cameras, seamlessly integrated with Milestone’s XProtect Video Management Software (VMS). The move marks a significant step in the hospital’s decade-long transition from analog CCTV to a fully IP-based security system, aligning with its broader strategy to enhance safety and operational efficiency.
Smart Integration
As part of the National Health Service (NHS) Trust, the hospital operates across a vast campus with complex security challenges. Budget constraints and the need for uninterrupted operations meant that replacing the entire surveillance network was not an option. Instead, the hospital sought a cost-effective solution that could modernise its existing infrastructure while providing advanced security features.
Following a thorough assessment, the hospital installed 25 i-PRO X-Series AI-enabled cameras, chosen for their ability to enhance surveillance without requiring a complete system overhaul. The key advantage was i-PRO’s AI Processing Relay, which extends AI capabilities to non-AI cameras, allowing the hospital to upgrade 100 surveillance points without replacing them entirely.
By strategically placing the new cameras across high-risk areas, the hospital significantly improved threat detection, reduced false alarms, and seamlessly integrated with Milestone’s XProtect Smart Wall. This setup ensures real-time alerts and video feeds, enabling faster incident response.
Futureproofing with Advanced AI
The i-PRO X-Series cameras bring AI-driven analytics into hospital security, offering real-time object detection, crowd monitoring, and behavioural analysis. This allows the security team to identify potential threats proactively. Integration with the hospital’s Paxton access control system further enhances security by automating alerts for unauthorised access and unusual behaviour.
With Ambarella’s AI SoC technology, the cameras process complex analytics at the edge, reducing network strain while maintaining high performance. Another essential feature is i-PRO’s Privacy Guard, which anonymises sensitive footage to comply with privacy regulations.
The hospital’s investment in i-PRO technology is not just addressing current security needs but also setting the foundation for future enhancements. The cameras’ adaptability ensures that additional AI applications can be deployed as required, supporting long-term scalability without major hardware upgrades.
By integrating i-PRO’s X-Series cameras with Milestone’s XProtect VMS, the hospital has created a highly efficient AI-powered security system that balances financial constraints with operational demands. This project highlights how public sector institutions can enhance security through strategic upgrades, making use of AI-driven surveillance to improve safety, efficiency, and compliance with evolving privacy standards.
