Amthal has completed a full security upgrade at The Maltings Shopping Centre in St Albans, UK, strengthening a partnership that spans more than 30 years. The new system transforms how the centre is monitored and managed, combining the latest surveillance technology with smarter data-driven control.
The project introduced 39 Dahua cameras, including PTZ, 180-degree and AI-powered people-counting models, covering all entrances and car parks. Automatic number plate recognition has been integrated with the barrier system to streamline vehicle access, while people-counting analytics provide reliable visitor data to support operational planning.

A redesigned digital control desk now unites all live feeds, recordings and analytics on one platform, improving oversight and response times. The system also includes active deterrent measures and EMCS Sentry monitoring software to ensure camera performance, supported by secure on-site data storage.
Centre Director Richard Marrett said, “The new systems have changed the way we manage the centre. We can identify incidents, respond quickly and review activity with confidence. Behind it all is the trust we have in Amthal, built over three decades of working together to keep The Maltings safe and welcoming.”
Installed while the centre remained open, the upgrade was carefully scheduled to avoid disruption. Dahua’s Business Development Director, Kris Hallett, highlighted the system’s low-light performance, auto-tracking and remote access capabilities.
Paul Rosenthal, Amthal’s Group Business Development Director, added: “This latest upgrade delivers a simple, integrated solution that keeps The Maltings secure and ensures a safe, enjoyable experience for tenants and shoppers alike.”
