Johnson Controls Brings Intrusion Detection and Monitoring Together

by Geny Caloisi

Johnson Controls has expanded its intrusion detection portfolio with the latest generation of IQ Panels, which are now supported by the company’s PowerManage platform. The move highlights the growing demand for integrated solutions that combine security management, monitoring, and user control in a single system.

The IQ Panel 4 family is designed as an all-in-one security and smart home hub. Using PowerG wireless technology, the panels are positioned as a flexible option for a wide range of sites, from private homes and multi-dwelling properties to commercial environments. For installers, the use of long-range wireless aims to reduce time spent on cabling while maintaining reliability.

PowerManage serves as the remote management and monitoring layer, enabling service providers to deliver interactive services and centralised oversight. End users can also connect through the company’s Connect Alarm app, which offers control functions such as arming and disarming, system checks, and links to smart devices.

A new PowerG indoor motion detector with camera has also been introduced, reflecting a broader industry shift towards alarm verification. By adding visual confirmation, the detector is intended to cut false alarms and support faster decision-making at monitoring centres.

The IQ Panel 4 family is available in several models, including the cost-focused IQ4 Hub and the feature-rich IQ Panel 4, giving installers options depending on the scale of deployment and customer requirements.

The introduction of the panels with PowerManage support comes at a time when the intrusion detection market is evolving. End users are increasingly seeking systems that go beyond basic alarms, combining security with wider smart building functionality. For monitoring providers and installers, the emphasis is on solutions that are easier to deploy, support remote services, and remain adaptable to future integration needs.

Johnson Controls’ latest update is less about reinventing intrusion detection and more about aligning existing technologies with current market demands for connected, scalable, and user-friendly systems.
