This summer, Benchmark and System Q hosted a CPD-accredited webinar on Martyn’s Law that drew strong industry engagement. Led by Mike Isherwood, Managing Director of System Q, the session explained the fundamentals of the legislation, outlined the two-tier system, and clarified what different types of venues will need to do ahead of the April 2027 deadline.
Yet the strongest takeaway was the volume and urgency of the questions raised. Attendees wanted clarity on situations not covered by generic guidance: venues with fluctuating capacities, outdoor events with temporary fencing, the use of fire alarms for lockdown alerts, and whether “AI cameras” in enhanced venues meant facial recognition would be mandatory. These questions reflected the very real challenges venues are facing as they start to plan for compliance (see graphic from the previous webinar).

That demand has shaped the follow-up session, which will take place on 7 October.
Mike will focus squarely on those unresolved issues, drawing on more than 100 questions submitted during the summer webinar and input from venues already working through compliance. Expect clear guidance on variable capacity venues, outdoor and temporary events, and multi-occupancy sites, alongside practical advice on separating fire and security systems without compromising safety.
The session will also tackle some uncomfortable truths: there is no specific government grant for Martyn’s Law at present, there is no such thing as a “Martyn’s Law approved” product despite marketing claims to the contrary, and delaying preparations risks both liability and installer shortages as the 2027 deadline approaches. To support attendees, System Q will share an 18-month roadmap covering assessment, design, implementation and testing, along with templates, guides and checklists.
This webinar is for venue operators, security managers, facilities teams and installers who are looking for more than an overview—they want detailed, scenario-driven answers. Even if you missed the summer session, this event will provide all the context you need before diving into the solutions.
