Vismo launches Checkpoints for proof of presence and staff safety

by Geny Caloisi

Vismo has introduced “Vismo Checkpoints”, a proof-of-presence tool designed to enhance employee safety and compliance by pinpointing where staff are located within a building or event space. The system uses QR codes placed at strategic points, which employees scan via the Vismo Locate & Protect app on their smartphones. Each scan confirms presence to the user and uploads the data securely to Vismo’s portal, integrating with an organisation’s existing security protocols.

Colin Dale, Global Sales Director at Vismo (picture below), explained: “Checkpoints enables employers to understand not only the geographic location but also the position of staff in a building at the time of the scan. It can be particularly valuable for field operatives logging visits to remote or unmanned locations, and for improving the safety of lone workers such as hotel staff.”

The tool offers time-stamped verification of presence, which is especially useful for security personnel working night shifts or in isolation. According to Dale, this provides security companies with “an excellent verification method for ensuring accountability and attendance as legally agreed.”

Supporting compliance and safeguarding workers

Checkpoints is designed to support organisations in meeting duty of care responsibilities and regulatory requirements. In the UK, it aligns with the forthcoming Martyn’s Law – the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 – which places new obligations on operators of public venues to strengthen security and preparedness in the wake of the 2017 Manchester Arena attack. In the US, the solution supports compliance with New York City’s Safe Hotels Act (Intro. 0991), which came into effect in November 2025 and introduced new safety and staffing requirements for hotels.

The tool also addresses challenges in sectors where lone working remains common, such as healthcare. Dale referenced the risks highlighted by the 2023 murder of visiting nurse Joyce Grayson during a scheduled check at a Connecticut halfway house, emphasising the role of Checkpoints in helping organisations improve safeguards.

Beyond healthcare and hospitality, Vismo identifies a broad range of applications for Checkpoints, including facilities management, retail, education, utilities, renewable energy operations, event management, museums and commercial cleaning. In each case, the system offers a cost-effective means of delivering compliance, accountability, and staff wellbeing through accurate, time-stamped records.

An additional safety feature is the integration of Vismo’s panic button with Checkpoints. This allows employers and security personnel to pinpoint a user’s precise location if they trigger an alert, enabling faster response in emergencies.

Dale concluded: “Checkpoints will appeal to organisations seeking a fast-to-deploy, cost-effective solution that enhances staff safety while supporting compliance obligations across a wide range of industries.”
