Over 123,000 vehicles of all types were stolen between September 2021 and 2022, according to the Office of National Statistics. That’s a shocking increase of 29% from the previous 12-month period.
Where older vehicles are targeted with traditional smash-and-grab techniques, modern cars are being stolen with more sophisticated techniques, using keyless technology to trick the car into thinking the key is present and operational. Keyless thefts are twice as likely to happen, and it can take as little as 60 seconds.
Recognising the worrying rate at which vehicle theft has increased over the last couple of years, Pyronix set out to develop a steadfast solution. Having conferred with security industry professionals and conducted thorough market research, the company determined that a one-of-a-kind, brand-new-to-market product that works in conjunction with their existing systems was the way forward – and the CarDefender was created.
CarDefender has been nominated as a finalist at this year’s Benchmark Innovation Award in the Alarm/Detection innovation category (click on the link to vote for CarDefender).
The revolutionary device connects with the home alarm system when in wireless range of the control panel to deliver immediate notification straight to the user’s mobile phone via HomeControl2.0 in the event of attempted theft, allowing preventative action to be taken as soon as possible.
The CarDefender features a three-axis accelerometer and is configurable with three detection modes. It can be set to detect shock or tilt, triggering for shock only, tilt only, or if either shock or tilt is detected. These detection modes identify shock or movement caused by intruders attempting to gain entry to the vehicle or movement of the steering wheel, for example.
Vehicles are often parked away from properties, so the device has been developed with this in mind. The CarDefender is added to the system as an unsupervised zone, enabling it to be driven outside of the wireless range without causing a fault. By allocating it to an area of its own, the device adheres to all necessary standards and protocols to enable the full system to remain Grade 2 compliant. When returning to the property, the device wakes within 5 minutes, or the user can manually do this using the handy Back to Home button on the front of the device.
Moreover, the CarDefender is a particularly versatile solution as it delivers for multiple use cases. With its conformally coated PCB (ideal for changeable environments), a specially designed, brightly-coloured silicone rubber mount and the option to secure with the 3M tape provided, the device can be fitted to a range of assets, including vans, caravans, bikes, motorcycles and more.
With a one-year battery life, a two-year warranty and HomeControl2.0 connectivity, the CarDefender provides professional installers with something completely unique, helping them to differentiate themselves in the marketplace and add value to their offering.
