The World of Wine gets world class security

by Geny Caloisi
Portugal’s  World of Wine (WOW) called on the experts to create a reliable security infrastructure for its 55,000 m2, one million visitors a year tourist destination.

The project is a €100 million investment by the Fladgate Partnership, the owners of Port wine brands like Taylor’s, Croft, and Fonseca, and the adjacent Yeatman hotel.

WOW is a cultural, gastronomic and retail complex located in Porto’s historic Port wine cellar district in Portugal. It boasts six museum experiences, nine restaurants, bars and cafes and a wine school, all positioned around a central square with exceptional views over Porto and the Douro River.

The Security Operations Centre (SOC) at WOW is equipped with: intrusion detection systems from Vanderbilt, Axis cameras equipped with A.I.Tech Video Analytics applications, Hikvision Access control, Siemens Cerberus fire control and Userful video wall.

All the systems have been integrated through the software platform COSMO PSIM+, allowing the operators and management team to manage all the systems in a simple to use unified interface. The COSMO PSIM + platform correlates data from multiple sensors in a single unified interface, where the operator can perform video verification of the alarms in real-time.

For instance, if an event requires evacuation, the SOC can make the appropriate decisions taking into account both the data from the access control systems and those extracted from the video analysis applications of A.I. Tech installed onboard the cameras.
